The Great Southwest Athletic Conference announced its 2025-26 major award winners and All-Conference Team, presented by Under Armour, and Amira Austin and Jessica Case were tabbed the Co-Defensive Player of the Year and Coach of the Year, respectively.
In addition, three Royals were selected to the 11-player all-league unit, as Austin, Nicole Chuang and Aliyah Gonzalez made the list.
Austin anchored one of the league's top defensive teams, as she ranked third in the GSAC in total rebounds (252) and rebounds per game (10.5). She also ranked third in total blocked shots (36) and second in blocked shots per game (1.5). The West Covina native led the Royals with 35 steals, ranking within the top 20 in that category on the GSAC leaderboard.
The 6-foot-1 center registered 12 double-doubles this season and 16 games with double-digit rebounds. She matched her career-high of 15 rebounds in four games, including twice against The Master's. Austin enters the postseason riding a streak with at least one block in 14 straight games. Austin also has a potent offensive game as her 14.3 points per game ranks sixth in the GSAC.
In her fourth season leading Hope International, Case earned her first Coach of the Year accolade after helping the team to its first GSAC regular season title. The Royals finished 15-1 to win the title outright, and take a 22-4 record into the postseason. The 22 wins rank as the fourth-most all-time in program history and represent Case's second 20-win season.
The Royals led all GSAC teams with the three all-conference selections, tying the 2021-22 team for most honorees in one season.Â
In addition to Austin, Chuang molded into a key cog on the championship team after transferring to HIU from The Master's. Chuang averaged 12.4 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.2 steals while hitting a team-best 58 three-pointers. Chuang ranks second in the GSAC in both total threes made and three-pointers made per game (2.4). The Torrance native also ranks ninth in free throw percentage (.762) and 12th in scoring.Â
She has made at least one triple in 22 of 24 games played this season.
Gonzalez developed into one of the GSAC's top scorers as her 13.3 points per game ranks 10th overall. The Whittier native also ranked 10th in field goal percentage (.435) and fourth in three-point field goal percentage (.362). Gonzalez had a career-high 26 points against Arizona Christian, one of six 20-point games this season.
She enters the postseason having made at least one three-pointer in 16 consecutive contests.
HIU is the No. 1 seed in the GSAC Tournament and hosts fourth-seeded Benedictine Mesa on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.Â
