Women’s Track and Field Begins Season at Salo & Crenna Invite

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Hope International women's track & field team competed in the season-opening Pomona-Pitzer David Salo & Nancy Crenna College Invite on Saturday.

Five Royals participated in various events.

Lupe Mata was the top Royals individual finisher, coming in 10th place in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:29.38.

Maya Estrada-Garcia led a trio of Royals in the 1 mile run with a time of 5:40.05. She was followed by Mata in 5:51.04 and Jazmin Zambrano in 6:18.37.

Estrada-Garcia also competed in the 3000 meter run, clocking 11:07.28 for 32nd place.

The foursome of Ariyana Alcantar, Estrada-Garcia, Mata and Amber Minjarez ran the 4x400 relay in 4:42.53.

Alcantar posted a 15.13 in the 100 meter dash and 31.52 in the 200 meter dash, respectively. Minjarez finished with a time of 30.68 in the 200.

HIU's entry in the lone field event was Zambrano in the javelin, as she hurled a top mark of 58 feet, 7 inches (17.85m) for 12th place.

The Royals return to action on Friday, March 6 at the RCC Invitational in Riverside.
