FULLERTON – The Hope International Cheer team opened up its second season of competition on Saturday at Darling Pavilion, hosting the Royal Rumble Invitational which included visiting teams Simpson and Carroll College.

The Royals competed in three separate competitions – duals with both Simpson and Carroll, as well as a multi-team competition between all three schools.

In the multi competition, HIU stormed to victory with a winning score of 84.45 points. Simpson was second with 64.72 points and Carroll took third with 60.70.

HIU faced Simpson in the first dual, and won with a score of 83.3 points. The Red Hawks posted a score of 70.68.

The Royals faced Carroll in the final dual of the evening, with the hosts tallying 76.67 points for the victory. The Fighting Saints totaled 69.95 points.

This was the first competition that HIU hosted in its short history, and Athletics looks to build on this event for the future.

HIU looks ahead to its next competition – the USA Nationals – which takes place on February 21-22 at the Anaheim Convention Center.
