Women’s Soccer Blanks Life Pacific 3-0 to Open GSAC Play

LA VERNE, Calif.Jacinda Rivera, Shelby Kain and Jordan Galvin tallied goals and the Hope International defense limited Life Pacific to just four shots in a tidy 3-0 victory on Wednesday at Ortmayer Stadium.

The win lifted HIU's record to 4-2-0, with all four wins coming by shutout. It was also the GSAC opener for both teams. The Warriors fell to 4-2-0.

Galvin added her team-leading fourth assist to finish with three points for the match. Rivera notched her team-high fourth goal, while Kain netted her third to move into a tie for second on the squad.

HIU outshot Life Pacific 13-4 and held a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks. Royal goalkeeper Victoria Ruiz did not need to make any saves in the match and played the full 90 minutes for the shutout. Warrior counterpart Valerie Lopez notched four saves.

The Royals dented the scoreboard for the first time in the 20th minute as the Warriors were whistled for a foul inside the 18. Rivera was summoned to take the penalty kick, and she calmly buried her shot to the lower left of the goal for the 1-0 lead.

The two teams combined for just three more shots for the remainder of the first half as HIU's one goal lead held at halftime.

HIU doubled its lead in the 79th minute, taking advantage of a corner kick opportunity. Galvin lofted a pretty service from the left side into the middle of the box, where Kain deftly directed her header past Lopez.

The Royals tacked on a third goal at the 88:40 mark. On a breakaway, Madison Lopez cut a backwards pass that escaped the charging Lopez and rolled to Galvin, who easily deposited her shot into the net.

Only 11 fouls were called in the contest, with just three on HIU.

The Royals continue on the road in GSAC play, journeying to Benedictine Mesa on Saturday for an 5:30 p.m. kickoff.
