No. 20 Royals Season Ends With Loss to No. 4 Southern Oregon

Ashland, OR - The No. 20 Hope International University softball team (37-15) were eliminated from the NAIA Opening Round as their season came to an end with a 5-3 loss to the host No. 4 Southern Oregon University Raiders on Wednesday afternoon in Ashland, OR.

Kaitlyn Maaske (18-6) took the loss pitching a complete game 6 innings allowing five runs, four earned on 11 hits while walking one and striking out two. Vivian Little led the Royals offense going 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs.

Looking to force the if necessary game the Royals jumped on top in the top of the first as Asia Chacon ripped a two out RBI single to left field to put the Royals up 1-0. Maaske then kept the high powered Raiders offense at bay through three innings including retiring them in order in the bottom of the second. The Raiders weren't held down for long though as they put up a four spot in the bottom of the third to take a 4-1 lead.

The Royals didn't go down without a fight as Little ripped a clutch two out two run single in the top of the fifth to pull the Royals within 4-3. The Raiders then tacked on another run in the bottom of the sixth to increase their lead to 5-3. The Royals tried to rally in the top of the seventh putting two on with two down but they were unable to rally as their season came to an end with a 5-3 defeat.
