San Antonio, TX - The Hope International men's tennis team (6-17) snapped an 11-game losing streak as they took down the Rust College Bearcats 4-0 to open the RRAC Championships on Wednesday morning at Blossom Tennis Center in San Antonio, TX.
The Royals got off to a great start in doubles as
Reid Lizardo and
Yahia Elsheikh won 6-2 and
Felix Hamp and
Ricky Lizardo won 6-1 to win the doubles point. The Royals were in a play to clinch format as
Thomas Folsom and
Dylan Barrett had their match end early with the game tied 4-4 because the Royals had already clinched the point. The Royals then quickly dispatched the Bearcats in singles with
Reid Lizardo shutting out his opponent 6-0, 6-0 while his brother Ricky also won quickly 6-1, 6-1. Then
Kento Henderson sealed it winning 6-1, 6-0 to give the Royals a 4-0 win. Three Royals ended up not finishing their matches as
Kento Henderson was up 6-1, 3-0 and
Felix Hamp was up 6-1, 3-1 at the time of completion. El Sheikh was in a tight one winning the first set 6-2 and trailing in the second 3-0 at the finish.
With the win the Royals advance to the RRAC Quarterfinals where they will take on top-seeded and No. 3 Our Lady of the Lake on Thursday, April 17 at 8:00 AM PT in San Antonio, TX at Blossom Tennis Center.
