Royals Wrap Up Dillard Tournament Against Top Ranked Opponents

New Orleans, LA - The Hope International men's tennis team (5-10) wrapped up play on Sunday at the Dillard Tournament with a slate of games against top ranked opposition in New Orleans, LA.

The Royals took on No. 23 Loyola on Friday and fell 6-1. The Royals picked up the doubles point as Kaito and Kento Henderson won 6-1 and Yahia Elsheikh and Reid Lizardo won 6-4. Ricky Lizardo and Felix Hamp fell 6-3 but it didn't matter as the Royals took two out of three to get the point. The Royals looked to continue their success in singles as Kento Henderson started out strong but fell 1-6, 6-1, 6-1. ElSheikh also fought hard but fell 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 and Ricky Lizardo dropped another close one 6-3, 3-6, 7-5. Reid Lizardo fell 7-6, 7-5, Thomas Folsom lost 6-0, 6-2 and Dylan Barrett lost 6-1,6-1.

The Royals then took on No. 5 William Carey on Saturday and lost 7-0. The Royals battled tough against one of the best teams in the country but dropped the doubles point first with Dylan Barrett and James Nicols and Ricky Lizardo and Kaito Henderson falling 6-1. Yahia Elsheikh and Reid Lizardo would fall in a close one 6-4 but it didn't end up mattering as William Carey took the doubles point. The Royals tried to fight back in singles but were unable to pick up any points. Elsheik came the closest losing a tough match 6-3, 7-5. 

The Royals wrapped up the tournament on Sunday with a match against No. 13 Dillard. Due to a schedule confusion doubles never took place and the teams played until the first team reached four points which was Dillard who won 4-0. Ricky Lizardo put up the strongest fight as he took the first 6-4 but would fall 6-2 and 6-3 as he lost his matchup. Reid Lizardo would fall in another close one 7-6, 6-2 while Thomas Folsom lost 6-2, 6-0 and Dylan Barrett lost 6-4, 6-0. Kento Henderson battled hard but his match was abandoned at 6-3, 6-7, 4-1.

The Royals continue action on Wednesday, March 26 against Williams College at 12:00 PM at the Fullerton Tennis Center in Fullerton, CA.
