No. 14 Royals Sweep Firestorm for Third Win in a Row

Fullerton, CA - The No. 14 Hope International men's volleyball team (11-4, 3-1 GSAC) picked up their third GSAC win as they swept the Arizona Christian University Firestorm 3-0 on Saturday afternoon at home in the Darling Pavilion.

Building off their big win the Royals came storming out of the gates on an 8-3 run led by two kills from Cole Oliver. The Firestorm regrouped after a timeout to make it 12-8 but the Royals stepped on the gas as they went on an 8-0 run led by two kills from Kyler Tufuga to seize control with a 20-8 lead. The Royals would go on to close out the set on a big kill by Sean Seaman to win 25-16 and take a 1-0 lead. The Firestorm tried to answer in the second set as they took an early 8-3 lead but the Royals came right back on an 8-1 run with two kills each from Damon Potter, Julian Zavala and Oliver to take an 11-9 lead. The Firestorm tried to stop the Royals momentum but they couldn't as the Royals took control again with an 8-2 run finished off by another kill from Oliver and two aces from Tufuga to take a 19-11 lead. The Firestorm would rally to make it 24-20 but Oliver delivered another huge kill to win the set 25-20 and put the Royals up 2-0.

The Firestorm looked to extend the game in the third set but the Royals weren't about to let that happen as they jumped out to an early 7-3 lead capped off by a kill from Danny Helou. The Firestorm fought to stay in the game as they tied it 8-8 but the Royals answered strong as they went on to lead 14-10 off a big solo block from Zavala. The Firestorm regrouped after a timeout to make it 14-13 but the Royals answered again to go up 19-15. The Firestorm continued to battle but the Royals weren't about let the Firestorm back in the game as they used a 4-0 run with back to back kills from Helou to take a 24-17 lead as they went on to win 25-19 and pull off the 3-0 sweep. Oliver led the Royals with 12 kills while Tufuga led with 32 assists.

The Royals continue action at home as they host Cal Lutheran on Tuesday, March 18 at 6:00 in the Darling Pavilion in Fullerton, CA.
