MESA, Ariz. – Olivia Samaniego posted 14 kills on .444 hitting to lead the Hope International women's volleyball team to a 25-16, 24-26, 25-17, 25-11 victory over Park Gilbert on Friday at the Arizona Athletic Grounds.

The Royals snapped a 10-match losing streak, getting 13 kills from Manaia Mamea and 11 from Savannah Salter.

HIU hit .283 (60-21-138) for the match with Rita Nua and Alyssa Bishop handing out 26 and 25 assists, respectively.

In the back row, Annie Nugent led the way with 18 digs.

The Royals collected 20 service aces, including a match-high seven from Macy Thornburg. That total ties for fourth all-time in a single-match in HIU history.

After the two teams split the first pair of sets, HIU dominated in set three. The Royals utilized a 5-0 run to overcome a 6-5 deficit, taking an 11-6 lead. The Royals remained in front by five, 18-13, when the Buccaneers scored back-to-back points to cut the deficit to three.

But another 5-0 burst put HIU firmly in control at 23-15, aided by a pair of Manaia Mamea kills. HIU won 25-17 after hitting .281 (15-6-32) in the set.

The Royals fared even better in set four, swinging at a .407 (14-3-27) clip.  HIU raced out to an 8-2 lead.

Three consecutive Thornburg aces completed a 6-0 run and gave the visitors a 15-4 lead. Bishop posted another ace to put HIU up 19-7, and one more ace from Isabel Villavicencio handed the Royals a 22-8 advantage.

Salter ended the match with a kill and the 25-11 triumph.

HIU completes its trip to Arizona on Saturday  with a 1:00 p.m. contest at Arizona Christian.
