SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – Sophomore Caleb Ornelas captured first place at the Bushnell Invitational on Friday at Pine Ridge Golf Club, continuing his ascent on the men's cross country scene in 2025.
The Chino Hills product broke 27 minutes for the second straight week in an 8K race, crossing the line in 26 minutes, 35.74 seconds for medalist honors. He was almost 14 seconds ahead of runner-up Abel Schwanz of the Oregon Running Club.
Ornelas topped his previous-best time – set a week ago at the Highlander Invite in 26:47.0 – by 12 seconds.
Daniel Perez finished in third place with a time of 27:14.11. It was his highest career finish as a Royal.
Also competing for the Royals was Andy Avalos (30:31.81) and Landen Prather (39:47.48), who finished in 18th and 24th place, respectively.
The Royals return to action on Friday, November 7 at the GSAC Championships, which will be held in Glendale, Ariz. at Sahuaro Ranch Park.
