SURPRISE, Ariz. – Hope International women's soccer completed its Arizona roadtrip with a 3-0 victory over OUAZ on Saturday at Spirit Field, getting goals from Karissa Frerichs, Madison Lopez and Shelby Kain.
The Royals improved to 7-5-1 with all seven wins coming by shutout. HIU also picked up three important points in the GSAC standings in moving to 4-3-1. The Spirit fell to 5-8-0 overall and 3-5-0 in conference play.
HIU pounced on OUAZ just two minutes into the match as Frerichs collected her second goal of the season, courtesy of an Indi Stum assist.
Madison Lopez doubled the score in the 27th minute, connecting for her first goal in tandem with Ana Pacheco.
The Royals headed into intermission with the 2-0 lead and a 8-5 advantage in shots.
OUAZ picked up its pace in the second half, outshooting the Royals 6-3 but failing to score.
Shelby Kain notched her team-leading sixth goal in the 81st minute, increasing the HIU lead to 3-0. The Spirit were whistled for a foul in the box, and Kain scored from the spot to close out the scoring.
Victoria Ruiz had four saves to collect the shutout.
The Royals put 27 players on the pitch.
OUAZ's Desiree Dutra led all players with four shots. Spirit goalie Chloe Avila made three saves.
HIU finishes up a three-match roadtrip on Thursday, October 16 at La Sierra. Kickoff is slated for 5:00 p.m.
