Women’s Soccer Dials Up Another Shutout

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Hope International women's soccer team ventured out on the road against La Sierra on Thursday, and dominated in a 3-0 victory.

It was the second straight 3-0 win for the Royals, and the eighth by shutout. HIU has outscored its opponents 24-0 in its eight shutout wins.

The Royals improved to 8-5-1 overall and 5-3-1 in the GSAC behind goals from Indi Stum, Madison Lopez and Frida Vizcarra.

HIU got on the board in the ninth minute as Stum took advantage of a pass from Annie Holst, and deposited her shot into the goal for her first of the season.

The Royals went into halftime with the 1-0 lead and a 10-1 shot advantage. The visitors continued to control the possession and the opportunities in the second half, breaking through for the second goal at the 48:15 mark.

Lopez was the benefactor of another assist from Holst – the first two-assist game of her career.

HIU ended up with an 18-2 shot advantage in the match. Vizcarra added an insurance goal in the 77th minute, taking a pass on the right side, dribbling a few times and unleashing a shot past La Sierra goalie Ali Razon.

Karissa Frerichs led the Royals with four shots. Emma Valenzuela and Vizcarra each posted three shots.

Victoria Ruiz notched the shutout without having to make a save. La Sierra fell to 6-4-3 overall and 3-3-3 in conference play.

The Royals return to action on Thursday, October 23, looking to avenge an earlier loss to Soka. The game kicks off at 7:00 p.m. in the OC Great Park.
