Sundstrom On the Double as Royals Shutout Buccaneers

Mesa, AZ – The No. 19 Hope International women's soccer team (7-1, 4-0 GSAC) won their sixth game in a row as they shutout the Park University Gilbert Buccaneers 3-0 on Saturday evening on the road at Desert Sky Park in Mesa, AZ.

The game started off slow as neither team created many chances. The Royals would then break the deadlock in the 19th minutes as Kalia Lanoza whipped in a great ball to Christian Sundstrom who volleyed it home for her ninth goal of the year to put the Royals up 1-0. The Royals then doubled their lead minutes later as this time Sundstrom set up Frida Vizcarra in the 25th minute to make it 2-0. The Buccaneers looked for a response but it would be the Royals who struck again as Sundstrom smashed home her second goal of the game assisted by Alyssa Rubio to make it 3-0 in the 31st minute.

The Royals continued to push for more to start the second half and quickly found the back of the net again as Sundstrom found Brandi Valdez during a scramble in the box for her second goal of the season in the 47th minute to make it 4-0. The Royals then sat back and let the Buccaneers have the ball but they were unable to generate any chances. The Royals defense led by goalie Haley Slouka allowed just two shots with one target as the Royals emerge with a 4-0 shutout win. Slouka played the first half and recorded one save while Victoria Ruiz played the second half and was never tested.

The Royals continue GSAC action at home as they host Arizona Christian on Thursday, October 3 at 7:00 PM at the OC Great Park Stadium in Irvine, CA..
