Errors Cost Royals as they Suffer Sweep to No. 8 Warriors

Lincoln, CA – The No. 12 Hope International University softball team (30-9, 8-6 GSAC) dropped a doubleheader against the No. 8 Jessup University Warriors as they fell 6-4 and 4-2 on Saturday afternoon on the road at Foskett Regional Park in Lincoln, CA..

Game 1:
Allie Puente (20-7) took the loss pitching 6 2/3 innings allowing six runs, three earned on nine hits while walking two and striking out three. Samantha Villanueva led the Royals going 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs.

The game was scoreless until the top of the second when Villanueva led things off with a triple and then came around to score on a sac fly by Ariana Coronado to put the Royals up 1-0. Puente put the Warriors down in order in the bottom of the second and third innings, but the Warriors would break through on a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game 1-1. The Warriors would then take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth but Puente limited the damage getting two popouts to end the inning.

The Royals quickly struck back in the top of the sixth as Villanueva delivered a two out two run single to tie the game 2-2. The Royals then took advantage of an error off a single by Sarah Reisler to score two runs and retake a 4-2 lead in the top of the seventh. Puente looked to seal the win in the bottom of the seventh but the Warriors had other ideas as they took advantage of an error to tie the game 4-4 and then would walk it off as the Royals fell 6-4.

Game 2:
Grace Craig (8-2) took the loss pitching 6 innings allowing four runs on three hits while walking two. Jazzy Smith led the offense going 1-for-3 with one RBI. Reisler led the Royals offense going 1-for-3 with an RBI.

The Royals once again opened the scoring in the top of the second as they loaded the bases with one out before Natalie Corrales worked a walk to make it 1-0. That's all the Royals would get though as the Warriors fought back to take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third. This time it was the Royals turn to battle back as Reisler ripped a one out RBI double in the top of the fifth to tie the game 2-2.

Craig looked to shutdown the Warriors from there but they once again came through with a two out home run to take a 4-2 lead. The Royals tried to fight back in the top of the sixth as Kayla Stanley tried to start a two out rally with a single but the Royals were unable to cash in as they eventually fell 4-2.

The Royals continue GSAC action at home as they host No. 22 Vanguard on Saturday, April 13 with a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 PM at Bastanchury Park in Fullerton, CA.
