Royals Snap Four Game Slide Storm Past Firestorm 3-1

Glendale, AZ – The Hope International men's volleyball team (7-14, 2-7) ended a four game slide as they picked up their second GSAC win with a 3-1 victory over the Arizona Christian University Firestorm on Saturday afternoon on the road in Glendale, AZ.

The Firestorm came out strong as they took an early 6-3 lead but the Royals answered with a 9-0 run led by two kills each from Kyler Tufuga and Andy Tran to take a 12-6 lead. The Firestorm battled back to tie the game 16-16. The Royals would retake the lead on a kill by Tufuga but it was all Firestorm from there as they raced out to a 24-21 advantage before holding on for a 25-23 win as they went up 1-0. The Royals answered in the second set as they opened on an 8-2 run with three kills from Coby Prowse to take the early lead. The Firestorm fought back to make it 13-10 but it was all Royals from there as they went on to win 25-18 and tie the game 1-1.

The Royals continued their momentum into the third set as they took an early 8-2 lead before going on to take a commanding 18-9 lead with back to back kills from Tran and Brian Castro. The Royals would go on to lead 23-13 but the Firestorm weren't about to go down easily at home as they made it 23-18. The Royals quickly called timeout and regrouped getting a kill by Sean Seaman and a service ace by Sergio Garcia to win 25-18 and go up 2-1. The Firestorm looked to stay alive in the fourth set as they led early but the Royals seized control with a 5-1 run to take a 7-4 advantage. The Firestorm would make it 7-6 but that's as close as they got as the Royals closed out the set on a kill by Prowse to win 25-17 and 3-1. Prowse led the Royals with 21 kills.

The Royals wrap up their GSAC season at home against Menlo on Saturday, April 13 at 1:00 PM in the Darling Pavilion.
