Prowse and Zavala Lead Royals to Sweep of Firestorm

Fullerton, CA – The Hope International men's volleyball team (5-8, 1-3 GSAC) snapped a six game losing streak as they picked up their first GSAC win of the season with a 3-0 sweep of Arizona Christian on Friday evening at home in the Darling Pavilion.

The Royals got out to an early 10-6 lead led by two kills from Brian Castro but the Firestorm answered to take a 13-11 lead. The Firestorm would go on to lead 17-13 but the Royals didn't give up as they came storming back on a 6-1 run with kills from Javier Castillo, Coby Prowse and Julian Zavala to take a 19-18 lead. The game then swung back and forth with neither team being able to close it out until the Royals got back to back kills from Zavala and Prowse to win 30-28 and take a 1-0 lead. The Royals continued their momentum into the second set as a kill by Zavala put them up 7-4. The Firestorm came back to tie it multiple times including at 16-16 but the Royals answered well on a 4-1 run with two kills from Prowse to take a 20-17 lead. The Royals then held off the Firestorm as a kill by Prowse gave them a 25-22 win and a 2-0 lead. The Royals continued to play well in the third set as they took an early 8-4 lead off a kill from Kyler Tufuga. The Firestorm would comeback to tie it 11-11 but the Royals seized control with a 6-0 run led by two kills from Zavala as they took a 17-11 advantage. The Royals would then extend their lead to 20-12 as they went on to take the set 25-19 off a kill from Prowse to win 3-0. Zavala and Prowse led the Royals with 13 kills each.

The Royals continue GSAC play at home as they host OUAZ on Saturday, March 9 at 1:00 PM in the Darling Pavilion in Fullerton, CA
