Royals Drop Doubleheader to No. 11 Warriors

Fullerton, CA – The No. 7 Hope International University softball team (22-7, 2-4 GSAC) dropped a doubleheader to the No. 11 Jessup University Warriors falling 5-3 and 9-0 on Friday afternoon at home at Bastanchury Park in Fullerton, CA..

Game 1:
Allie Puente (13-6) took the loss pitching a complete game 7 innings allowing five runs, four earned on seven hits while walking three and striking out six. Sarah Reisler led the offense going 2-for-4 with an RBI.

The Warriors got to Puente early as they took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third. The Royals looked to answer in the bottom half as they loaded the bases with nobody out but were unable to cash in as they continued to trail. The Warriors would then added three more runs in the top of the fifth as the Royals trailed 5-0.

This time the Royals answered as Reisler ripped a one out RBI double to left center to make it 5-1. Emma McCraw then dropped an RBI single into left field to cut the Royals deficit to 5-2. Puente then shutdown the Warriors in the sixth and the seventh while the Royals looked to extend the game in the bottom half. The Royals loaded the bases with one out but were only able to get one more run across on a sac fly by Jazzy Smith as they fell 5-3.

Game 2:
Grace Craig (7-1) took the loss pitching 4 innings allowing seven runs on ten hits while walking one and striking out two. Reisler led the offense going 1-for-2.

The Warriors jumped on top in the first inning as they took a 1-0 lead. The Royals tried to answer in the bottom half but couldn't convert after a one out single as they continued to trail. The Warriors would then extend their lead to 6-0 in the top of the fourth. The Royals tried to generate a rally with a two out single but came up empty as they continued to trail. 

The Warriors would go on to take a 9-0 lead in the top of the fifth. The Royals looked to extend the game as they searched for a run but were unable to generate any offense as they got a base runner off a hit batter but couldn't take advantage as they fell 9-0 in five innings.

The Royals continue GSAC play at home as they host Menlo College with a doubleheader beginning at noon at Bastanchury Park in Fullerton, CA.
