Royals Can't Comeback Fall 93-77 to Warriors in NAIA First Round

Butte, MT - The Hope International University men's basketball team (21-10) fought hard but couldn't come back from a halftime deficit as they fell 93-77 to the Lewis Clark State Warriors on Friday evening in the first round of the NAIA Tournament at Montana Tech in Butte, MT

It was a defensive battle early on as the Royals led 6-2 with back to back layups by Gaven Ramirez and Grant Sii. The Warriors would cut it to 6-4 with 14:25 to go but the Royals answered to take an 11-7 advantage off a steal and fastbreak layup from Jozelle Carter Jr with 11:10 remaining. The Warriors answered to go up 21-11 with 6:32 to go but the Royals kept fighting as a jumper by Ausage Siamu cut the lead to 21-13. The Warriors had all the answers as they extended their lead to 30-15 with 2:52 to go. The Royals clawed their way back to 30-20 on another Siamu layup but again the Warriors answered as the Royals trailed 32-20 at halftime. It looked like the Royals had cut it to nine but a potential buzzer beater three was overturned by video replay.

The Royals came storming out of halftime with an 11-2 run led by six points from Carter Jr as they pulled within 34-31 with 18:17 to go. The Warriors answered with a bucket but the Royals kept up the pressure as a Sii layup and two free throws by Carter Jr made it 36-35 with 17:14 to go. The Warriors answered as they extended their lead to 45-37 but the Royals didn't give up as Carter Jr nailed a three to make it 45-40 with 13:57 to go. The Royals just couldn't stop the Warriors as they pulled back out to a 51-40 advantage with 11:52 remaining. Sii would answer with a layup to cut it to 51-42 but again the Warriors extended their lead to 81-64 with 3:18 to go. The Royals didn't give up the fight as a three point play by Jalen Shores made it 88-75 with 1:28 to go but it was to little to late as the Royals fell 93-77 as their season came to an end. Sii led with 22 while Carter Jr added 16.
