Royals Comeback to Stun No. 20 Mustangs on Senior Day

Fullerton, CA - The Hope International University men's basketball team (19-7, 8-4 GSAC) won their fifth game in a row to move into a tie for first in the GSAC as they took down the No. 20 Master's University Mustangs 67-65 in a thriller on Saturday afternoon at home in the Darling Pavilion on senior day.

The Mustangs jumped out to an early 10-2 lead but the Royals quickly answered with a jumper from Grant Sii to spark an 8-0 run to tie the game 10-10 with 14:33 to go. The Mustangs would then retake a 20-16 lead with 8:20 to go but Jonah Felix answered with a dagger three to start a 7-0 run as the Royals went back up 23-20 with 5:28 remaining. The Mustangs came back to retake a 32-30 lead with under thirty seconds to go but the Royals answered with a huge three from Sii at the buzzer to retake a 33-32 lead at the half. 

The Mustangs came right back to retake a 42-37 lead with 15:54 remaining but that didn't last long as the Royals came back to go up 43-42 on another huge three by Sii with 13:54 to go. The Mustangs would then retake a 53-46 lead midway through the half before going on to lead 65-59 with 2:15 to go. The Royals weren't done as the defense stepped up with Cameron Dashiell getting a huge steal leading to a game tying three from Jozelle Carter Jr with :58 seconds left. The Royals then forced another turnover which led to Sii laying the ball in with one second left to give the Royals a 67-65 upset win. Gaven Ramirez led with 15 points while Sii added 14 off the bench.

The Royals hit the road to wrap up GSAC play with their first stop in Glendale, AZ to take on Arizona Christian on Thursday, February 22 at 7:30 PM.
