Prowse and Zavala Lead Royals to Sweep of Firebirds

Fullerton, CA – The Hope International men's volleyball team (4-2) bounced back from Saturday's loss as they swept the University of Saint Katherine Firebirds 3-0 on Tuesday evening at home in the Darling Pavilion.

The Royals got off to a quick start as they jumped out to a 5-2 advantage led by two kills from Julian Zavala. It was a battle early on until the Royals went on a 4-0 run with two kills from Coby Prowse to seize control with a 12-8 advantage. The Firebirds fought back to take a 20-18 lead but the Royals had all the answers as they closed out the set on a 7-0 run led by two kills from Prowse to win 25-20 and take a 1-0 lead. The Firebirds looked to comeback in the second set as they took an early 4-1 lead but the Royals rallied to take the lead 10-9 on a kill by Zavala. The Firebirds answered to tie it but the Royals went on a 6-1 run to extend their lead to 16-11. The Firebirds came back to tie it 18-18 but the Royals had all the answers as they closed out the set with a 7-1 run with a kill by Zavala sealing a 25-19 win and a 2-0 lead. It was close early in the third set but the Royals pulled away to go up 7-3. The Firebirds tried to answer but the Royals led from start to finish with back to back kills from Prowse and Kyler Tufuga putting them up 15-7. The Royals then ran away with a 25-13 win and a 3-0 sweep. Prowse led the Royals with 11 kills while Zavala added 10.

The Royals continue action on the road as they travel to Northridge, CA to take on Cal State Northridge on Wednesday, February 14 at 6:00 PM.
