Castaneda Helps Lead Royals to Split with Eagles

Glendale, AZ – The No. 19 Hope International University softball team (11-2) wrapped up their Arizona road trip with a doubleheader split against the Embry-Riddle (AZ) Eagles dropping the first game 2-1 before winning the second 8-0 in six innings on Saturday in Glendale, AZ

Her sister Arely then drove her in with an RBI single up the middle to make it 1-0.

Allie continued to shutdown the Eagles putting them down in order in the bottom of the fifth but then ran into trouble in the sixth as the Eagles took advantage of two walks as they took a 2-1 lead. The Royals tried to answer in the top of the seventh but came up empty as they dropped game one of a doubleheader 2-1.

The Royals bats came to life in the top of the first as Castaneda delivered a two run single to make it 2-0. Craig then held the Eagles at bay as she put them down in order in the top of the second. The Royals then added to their lead in the third as they put two on with nobody out before Castaneda delivered again with a single and a forced error to plate two more runs and increase the Royals lead to 4-0. This time Natalie Corrales launched a one out RBI double to left center to make it 6-0. Asia Chacon then ripped a triple to start the sixth before she was brought home brought home by a Sarah Reisler RBI single to increase the lead to 7-0.
