Royals Can't Break Through Against Eagles on Senior Night

Irvine, CA - The No. 19 Hope International women's soccer team's (14-3-1, 11-2-1 GSAC) dropped their second game in a row as they fell 2-0 to the No. 16 Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Arizona Eagles on Saturday evening at OC Great Park Field 18 on senior night.

The Royals started out on the attack and had two great chances from Christiane Sundstrom but her first effort was saved and her second went just over the bar as the game remained scoreless. The Eagles would then open the scoring in the 13th minute as they caught goalie Haley Slouka off her line with a long range goal to make it 1-0. The Royals didn't let up as they pushed for the equalizer with two opportunities from Ryley Candelario but once again the Eagles goalkeeper was there to make the stop and keep the Royals off the board. Royals goalie Haley Slouka also kept the Royals in the game with two saves as they trailed 1-0 at halftime.

The Eagles looked to double their advantage early in the second but Slouka came up with a big save to keep the Royals in it. The Royals then had their best chance to tie it in the 56th minute as header by Pressley Honeycutt banged down off the bar and just failed to cross the goalline as the Royals continued to trail. Sundstrom then had another great chance to tie it but again the Eagles goalie made the save. The Eagles then doubled their lead in the 65th minute to make it 2-0. The Royals looked for a response but were unable to answer as they fell 2-0. Royals seniors were then honored after the game. Slouka played all 90 minutes and made six saves.

With the loss the Royals fall to the third seed in the GSAC playoffs and will travel to Santa Clarita, CA to take on The Master's on Friday, November 8 at 1:00 PM.
