Royals Fall to Mustangs in GSAC Semifinals

Santa Clarita, CA - The No. 23 Hope International women's soccer team's (14-4-1) dropped their third game in a row as they fell 4-1 to The Master's University Mustangs in the GSAC Semifinals on Friday, November 8 on the road in Santa Clarita, CA.

The Mustangs had a great opportunity to open the scoring fifteen minutes into the game but Royals goalie Haley Slouka came up with a huge one on one stop to keep the game scoreless. The Royals then survived a barrage of opportunities by the Mustangs before they took the lead as Christiane Sundstrom launched a laser into the net from 30 yards out to put the Royals up 1-0 in the 30th minute. The Royals continued to hold off the Mustangs through the rest of the half with Slouka making four saves as they took a 1-0 lead at halftime.

The Mustangs continued to dominate possession to start the second and would eventually break through after a speculative foul to tie the game 1-1 in the 60th minute. The Royals looked for a response but it was the Mustangs who scored again in the 65th minute to take a 2-1 lead. The Mustangs then doubled their lead in the 67th minute as the Royals fell behind 3-1. The Royals were then reduced to ten players after a second yellow. The Royals tried to answer but the Mustangs scored again as the Royals fell 4-1.

With the loss the Royals will have to sit and wait to see if they are selected as an at large team for the NAIA Tournament. Tune in here to the NAIA selection show on Saturday, November 16 at 11:00 AM PT.
