Royals Extend Unbeaten Run With 6-1 Victory Over Redhawks

Irvine, CA – The No. 19 Hope International women's soccer team (14-1-1, 11-0-1 GSAC) extended their unbeaten run to fourteen games and stayed unbeaten in GSAC play as they used a big second half to defeat the Benedictine University Mesa Redhawks 6-1 on Saturday evening at home at OC Great Park Field 18 in Irvine, CA.

The Royals dominated the possession in the first half while the Redhawks were content to sit back and absorb the pressure. After a barrage of opportunities the Royals were able to break through the defense as Ryley Candelario threaded a perfect pass to Christiane Sundstrom who calmly finished for her 19th goal of the season to put the Royals up 1-0 in the 39th minute. The Royals defense meanwhile shutdown the Redhawks as they limited them to just two shots with none on target as they took a 1-0 lead at halftime.

The Royals continued to dominate possession in the second half and doubled their lead in the 62nd minute as Frida Vizcarra made a nice move and blasted a long range shot in off the bar to make it 2-0. The Redhawks looked for a response but it was the Royals who found the back of the net again in the 70th minute off of an own goal to make it 3-0. The floodgates then opened as Kayla Fragoso launched a long range goal from the top of the box for her second of the season to make it 4-0 in the 75th minute. A minute later the Royals would add another goal as Madison Lopez found Ana Pacheco for her second of the season to make it 5-0. The Redhawks would then get on the board in the 80th minute to make it 5-1. The scoring wasn't done yet though as Riley Brossia slotted in her second goal of the season in the 86th minute as the Royals won 6-1. Slouka played all 90 minutes in goal recording one save.

The Royals continue GSAC action on the road as they travel to Santa Clarita, CA to take on The Master's on Thursday, October 31 at 1:30 PM.
