Mathias Leads Royals to 3-1 Win Over Sea Beggars

Fullerton, CA – The Hope International women's volleyball team (5-10) ended a four game slide as they took down the Providence Christian College Sea Beggars 3-1 on Saturday night in the Darling Pavilion.

It was a tight game throughout as the Royals held on to an early 12-9 lead off a kill from Cassidy Koffroth. The Sea Beggars used a 7-2 run to take a 16-14 lead. The Royals didn't give up as they managed to tie it 16-16 on a kill from Addie Mathias but the Sea Beggars took over from there as they took the set 25-22 and a 1-0 lead. The Royals fought back in the second set as they took a 4-3 lead before going on an 16-1 run led by three kills from Koffroth and four service aces from Addie Mathias to take control with a 20-4 lead. The Sea Beggars had no answer as the Royals won the set 25-7 and tied the game 1-1.

The Royals continued their momentum into the third set as they took an early 3-0 lead but this time the Sea Beggars came back to take a 9-7 advantage. This time the Royals answered as they went on a 5-0 run with kills from Mathias and Koffroth to take a 12-9 lead. The Sea Beggars came back to tie it 13-13 but once again the Royals took over as they won 25-22 and took a 2-1 lead. The Royals took an early lead as they looked to close out the game but the Sea Beggars came back to take a 13-11 lead midway through the set. From there it was a back and forth battle with the Royals using a late 3-0 run led by two kills from Macie Powell to win 25-22 and 3-1. Mathias led the Royals with 16 kills. 
 
The Royals return to action on the road as they head to Santa Clarita, CA to take on The Master's in GSAC action on Saturday, September 23 at 6:00 PM.
