Royals Fall Short Against Oaks 3-1

Fullerton, CA – The Hope International women's volleyball team (4-9, 0-3 GSAC) fought hard but fell 3-1 to the Menlo College Oaks on Friday night in the Darling Pavilion.

The Royals took an early 5-4 lead thanks to a kill from Jade Philips but the Oaks used a 4-0 run to take an 8-5 lead. The Royals came back to get within one multiple times including at 19-18 off a Savannah Salter kill but that's as close as they got as the Oaks closed out set one 25-18 for a 1-0 lead. The Oaks continued their momentum into the second set as they raced out to a 12-6 lead but the Royals came storming back on an 8-2 run led by two kills from Cassidy Koffroth to tie it 14-14. The Oaks would take a 20-16 advantage before the Royals came right back on a 5-0 run led by back to back kills from Addie Mathias to take a 21-20 lead. The Oaks kept battling as the Royals needed three chances but eventually back to back kills from Philips and Koffroth gave the Royals a 27-25 win and tied the game 1-1.

Once again the Oaks got out to an early lead in the third set before the Royals came back to tie it 7-7 on an ace by Mathias. The Oaks had all the answers though as they used a 4-0 run to take an 11-7 lead. The Royals tried to keep up as they got within 21-19 but the Oaks closed out the set 25-19 to take a 2-1 lead. The Royals continued to fight in the fourth set as they stayed point for point with the Oaks taking an early 7-6 lead off an ace from Judy Juhala. Then up 11-10 the Oaks used a 4-0 run to take control at 15-10. The Royals didn't give in as they used a late 3-0 run to get within 23-21 but the Oaks closed out the set winning 25-21 and 3-1. Koffroth led the Royals with 14 kills.

The Royals continue GSAC action at home as they host Jessup on Saturday, September 16 at 1:00 PM in the Darling Pavilion.
