Chun-Ming Hits for the Cycle While Hanson Drives in Four as Royals Defeat Warriors

Rocklin, CA – The Hope International University baseball team (24-7) bounced back from game two's loss yesterday to defeat the Jessup University Warriors 18-6 to take the regular season series two to one on Saturday afternoon in Rocklin, CA.

Matthew Pinal (4-0) picked up the victory pitching 5 2/3 innings allowing five runs, three earned on seven hits walking one and striking out six. Branden Chun Ming led the Royals offense hitting for the cycle going 5-for-5 with 5 RBIs

The Warriors jumped on top in the bottom of the first with a home run but the Royals quickly answered in the top of the second as Chun Ming crushed a two run home run to left center to put the Royals up 2-1. The Royals then added to their lead in the top of the fourth as Chase Hanson crushed a two run shot to center to make it 4-1. 

The Warriors would answer with two in the bottom half to make it 4-3 but the Royals offense continued to deliver as they struck for a big fifth inning. With the bases loaded and one out Chun-Ming delivered an RBI single to make it 5-3. Omar Veloz then lined an RBI single to right before Hanson then followed with a perfect bunt single to increase the Royals lead to 7-3. Then with two outs Alex Moreno lined a two run single through the left side to make it 9-3 before David Rivera also delivered to push the Royals advantage to 10-3. 

The Royals weren't done as they continued to pile up runs in the eighth. JJ Cruz hit a lead off home run to make it 11-3. Then an RBI groundout made it 12-3. Then with two on Rivera delivered another RBI single to make it 13-3. Max Jung-Goldberg, Rob Mattei and JJ Cruz followed with RBI singles before Chun-Ming ripped a two run triple to right center as the Royals took a commanding 18-3 lead. The Warriors would score three more runs but the Royals emerged victorious 18-6.

The Royals continue GSAC play at home as they welcome Menlo College for a three game series beginning on Friday, April 14 at 11:00 AM at Duane Winters Field in Fullerton, CA.
