Allie Puente With A No Hitter As Royals Split Doubleheader With Eagles

Fullerton, CA – The Hope International softball team (25-6) split a doubleheader with the Embry-Riddle (AZ) Eagles winning the first game 4-0 and losing the second game 4-0 on Thursday afternoon at Bastanchury Park in Fullerton, CA

Game 1:
Allie Puente (17-1) threw her first no hitter of the season with a complete game 7 inning shutout while walking one and striking out 16. Makenna O'Toole and Emma McCraw led the offense both going 2-for-3 with one RBI.

The game was scoreless until the Royals offense came to life in the bottom of the third with Makenna Stuart sparking a two out rally as she walked to lead off the inning. McCraw then stepped to the plate and smashed a double to center field to make it 1-0. Alena De La Torre would trade places with her as she followed with an RBI double to make it 2-0. Emily Puente then delivered a single up the middle as the Royals took a 3-0 lead.

Allie Puente didn't need much more help as she continued to shut down the Eagles from the circle allowing just two base runners the entire game. The Royals would then add to their lead in the bottom of the sixth as O'Toole crushed a solo home run to left field to make it 4-0. Allie Puente then finished off the Eagles in the seventh putting them down 1-2-3 as she threw a no hitter giving the Royals a 4-0 win.

Game 2:
Emily Puente (0-1) got the start and received the loss pitching 2 2/3 innings allowing four runs on three hits while walking three and striking out one. Marissa Hernandez led the Royals going 2-for-3 at the plate.

This time it was the Eagles who opened the scoring in the top of the third as they struck for four runs to take a 4-0 lead. The Royals continued to battle as they put runners on base but each time the E
Eagles got out of it.

On the other side Allie Puente came back in for the Royals and pitched 4 1/3 innings of relief allowing no hits while walking one and striking out six. The Royals offense though couldn't mount a comeback as they had a late chance in the bottom of the seventh but came up empty as they fell 4-0.

The Royals continue non conference action at home as they host Saint Katherine for one game on Monday, April 10 at 3:00 PM at Bastanchury Park in Fullerton, CA.
