Candelas Helps Seal Royals Regular Season Ending Win Over Warriors

Irvine, CA – The Hope International softball team (36-12) wrapped up regular season play with a 4-2 win over the Westcliff Warriors on Friday afternoon at the OC Great Park in Irvine, CA

Allie Puente (25-2) picked up the win pitching 4 perfect shutout innings while striking out nine. Olivia Candelas picked up her first save pitching the final 3 innings allowing two runs on six hits while striking out two. Leah Macias led the Royals offense going 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Looking to end the regular season on a positive note the Royals jumped on top in the top of the first. It was Arely Coronado who stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and two outs delivering an infield single that allowed Jaylyn Hernandez to race home for the first run of the game.

With Allie shutting down the Warriors offense the Royals continued to add to their lead in the top of the third. With one on and two out Ariana Coronado came up big ripping an RBI triple to right center to make it 2-0. Leah Macias then followed with an RBI single to third base to make it 3-0.

After Candelas came in and pitched a scoreless bottom of the fifth the Royals then added to their lead in the top of the sixth. Once again with the bases loaded and two outs the Royals came through as Hannah Macias delivered an RBI single up the middle to make it 4-0. The Warriors continued to battle though and got two runs in the bottom of the sixth to make it 4-2. The Royals ran into trouble in the seventh but Candelas worked her way around two one out singles to get the final two outs as the Royals won 4-2.

The Royals continue their season at the GSAC Championships as they kick off play against No. 4 seeded Vanguard on Monday, May 1 at 10:00 AM at the OC Great Park in Irvine, CA.
