Fullerton, CA – The Hope International University baseball team (3-1) won their third game in a row as they took down the Providence Christian Sea Beggars 13-3 on Tuesday night at Duane Winters Field in Fullerton, CA.
Tyler Tilton got the start and pitched two innings while allowing just one hit and striking out four.
Justin Drury (1-0) picked up the win in relief pitching two innings of hitless ball while striking out four.
Omar Veloz led the Royals offense going 2-for-3 with 4 RBIs.
After Tilton put the Sea Beggars down 1-2-3 to start the game the Royals offense got to work in the bottom half of the inning. With two on and one out Maxfield Jung Goldberg got the scoring started with a solid single to left to drive in a run and make it 1-0. After a run scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-0
Chase Hanson lined a triple down the right field line to make it 3-0. Then
Omar Veloz followed with a double down the line to put the Royals up 4-0 after the first.
The Royals would add another run in the bottom of the third on an RBI triple by Veloz to make it 5-0. Then in the fourth the Royals struck for another big inning. With a runner on third an error allowed another run to score to make it 6-0.
JJ Cruz then lined an RBI single to center field to make it 7-0. A bases loaded walk drove in another run before a fielder's choice by Veloz drove in two more runs as the Royals took a commanding 10-0 lead.
The Sea Beggars would answer as they finally got on the board with three runs in the top of the sixth to make it 10-3. The Royals though would come right back in the bottom half with more runs. Two bases loaded walks would make it 12-3 before
Ethan Hagen lined a single to left field to put the Royals on top 13-3. Royals pitching would shut down the Sea Beggars the rest of the way as the Royals won 13-3.
The Royals continue their season at home as they host Embry-Riddle for a four game series with two doubleheaders beginning on Friday, February 10 at 11:00 AM at Duane Winters Field in Fullerton, CA.
