Royals Run Shutout Streak to 25 Innings Top No. 19 Mountaineers and Eagles Again

Lincoln, CA – The Hope International University softball team (7-1) continued their season at the Jessup tournament in Lincoln as they ran their win streak to six games by once again shutting out Northwest 6-0 and then No. 19 Eastern Oregon 8-0 in six innings on Saturday at Fosket Regional Park. The Royals didn't allow a run in 25 consecutive innings at the tournament.

Game 1:
Allie Puente (4-0) picked up the victory as she threw a complete game one hitter over seven innings while striking out 16 and walking one. Alena De La Torre led the Royals offense going 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs

The game was a pitcher's duel through three innings until the Royals offense broke through in the bottom of the fourth as they put runners on second and third with one out. The Royals then took advantage of an error as they scored two runs to make it 2-0. Then after another base hit De La Toree ripped a single into center field to score two more runs and put the Royals ahead 4-0. Emma McCraw then hit a ground rule double to center field to drive in another run before an Emily Puente single gave the Royals a commanding 6-0 lead.

On the other side Allie Puente was brilliant on the mound once again retiring five of the first six batters she faced before allowing a base runner in the top of the third. The Eagles would finally get an extra base hit in the seventh but Allie coolly retired the next two batters as the Royals won 6-0.

Game 2:
Olivia Candelas (3-1) picked up the victory as she threw a complete game pitching six innings allowing just four hits while walking two and striking out five. Makenna Stuart led the Royals offense going 1-for-2 with 2 RBIs.

The Mountaineers did threaten in the top of the first but the Royals threw a runner out at home as the game was scoreless until the bottom of the third. With two on and one out McCraw drove an RBI single to right field that drove in two runs after an error to put the Royals up 2-0

Candelas continued to shut down the Mountaineers as she scattered two hits over the next few innings until the Royals offense struck for another big inning in the bottom of the sixth. The Royals started by loading the bases with nobody out and would then score on a bases loaded walk to make it 3-0. After a fielder's choice loaded the bases again with one out Stuart stroked a single up the middle to drive in two more runs and make it 6-0. De La Torre then single before McCraw ripped a double to right center to end the game as the Royals mercied the No. 19 Mountaineers 8-0.

The Royals continue action at home on Monday, February 20 as they host British Columbia and La Sierra for a small three game tournament beginning at 10:00am at Bastanchury Park in Fullerton.
