Royals Drop Second In a Row To Hawks

Fullerton, CA - The Hope International University men's basketball team (16-9, 9-7 GSAC) lost back to back games for the first time this season as they fell 82-80 to the San Diego Christian College Hawks on Saturday afternoon in the Darling Pavilion.

The Royals started off well as they pulled out to an early 11-4 advantage led by five points from Charles Neal. The Hawks wouldn't go away though as they fought back to get within 16-14. The Royals responded with their best run of the game outscoring the Hawks 13-5 to take a 29-19 advantage off a big three from Rasheet Wilson. The Hawks responded as they used the next six minutes to take the lead at 32-31. The Royals quickly answered with a 7-0 run led by four points from Sebastian Castro to take a 38-32 lead. The Royals couldn't hold off the Hawks as they closed the quarter on a 9-2 run to take a 41-40 halftime lead.

The Royals quickly retook the lead on a big three from Wilson to make it 43-41. Later a jumper by Jalani Horn put the Royals up 51-47 with 15:45 remaining. The Hawks responded though as they battled back to take a 66-59 lead with 9:53 to go. This time it was the Royals turn to comeback and they did as they went on a 10-2 run led by eight points from Horn as they retook a 69-68 lead. From there the game was back and forth with the Royals taking a 76-74 lead with 2:32 to go. They were unable to hold on though as the Hawks hit two late free throws to win the game 82-80. Horn led the Royals with 22 points.

The Royals continue GSAC action on the road as they head to San Dimas, CA to take on Life Pacific on Thursday, February 16 at 7:30 PM.
