Royals Falter Down the Stretch Fall to Blue Devils 84-79

Livonia, MI - The Hope International University men's basketball team (1-2) continued their season with another tough loss as they fell 84-79 to the Lawrence Tech Blue Devils on Saturday morning to wrap up a two game tournament in Livonia, Michigan.

The Royals came out strong in the first half as they opened with a 15-6 lead led by nine points from Sebastian Castro. The Blue Devils responded well though fighting back to make it 17-15 midway through the first half. The Royals answered with a 16-3 run as they went on to take their largest lead of 33-18 finished off by a pair of free throws from Jalen Shores and seven points from Gaven Ramirez with 4:34 to. The Blue Devils didn't give up as they battled back to within 11 points three times but Tristan Williams answered with a late basket as the Royals took a 39-26 lead at halftime.

The second half started off well for the Royals as the team exchanged baskets with a free throw by Castro giving the Royals a 48-35 lead with 16:55 to go. Things unraveled from there as the Blue Devils went on a 21-4 run as they reclaimed a 56-50 advantage with 12:17 remaining. The Royals regrouped and went on a 6-0 run to tie it 56-56 midway through the half. The Blue Devils regained the lead but the Royals continued to battle as Jalen Shores nailed a big three to put the Royals up 66-65 with 6:05 left. The teams then exchanged leads as a layup by Ramirez put the Royals back ahead 74-73 with 3:05 remaining. The Royals couldn't hold on though as they fell 84-79. Castro led the Royals with 24 points.

The Royals return home to take on Justice on Thursday, November 16th at 7:00 PM in the Darling Pavilion.
