Koffroth Leads Royals in Stunning Reverse Sweep Upset of Warriors

Fullerton, CA – The Hope International women's volleyball team (8-11, 3-5 GSAC) won their third GSAC game in a row as they rallied from behind in a stunning reverse sweep upset of the Life Pacific University Warriors on Friday evening in the Darling Pavilion.

The first set was a battle early on as the Royals kept it close. The Warriors though would pull out to a 13-8 lead midway through the set. The Royals continued to fight as they pulled back within 16-14 on an ace by Cassidy Koffroth but the Warriors were too much as they pulled away to win 25-20 and take a 1-0 lead. The second set started off similarly as the Royals kept it close, leading 5-4 before coming back to tie it 7-7 on a kill from Koffroth. Once again the Warriors took control as they held a 13-9 lead midway through the set. The Royals didn't give up as they used a 4-1 run rally with two kills from Koffroth to get within 14-13 but the Warriors had all the answers as they held off the Royals to win 25-21 and take a 2-0 lead.

The Royals kept it close in the third set as neither team were able to pull away until the Royals used a 4-0 run led by two kills from Kofforth to take an 18-16 lead. The game then swung back and forth with the teams exchanging leads until the Royals closed out the game with a 4-1 run finished off by back to back kills from Savannah Salter and Addie Mathias to win 26-24 and make it 2-1. The Royals continued their momentum into the fourth set as they looked to extend the game with a kill from Salter putting them up 11-9. The Warriors used a 13-3 run to seize back control of the game with a 22-14 lead. The Royals weren't done yet as they answered with a 10-2 run to tie it 24-24 before finishing the set off with back to back points led by an ace from Mathias to win 26-24 and tie it 2-2.

The Royals then sensing blood leapt out of the gates in the fifth set with a 6-1 run led by three kills from Koffroth. The Warriors kept it close though as they got within 11-8 but the Royals weren't about to be denied as they closed the set on a 4-0 run finished off by a block from Sofia Ramdhani and Koffroth to win 15-8 and pull off the reverse sweep upset 3-2. Koffroth led the Royals with 24 kills.
