Royals Shutout Warriors to Clinch Co-GSAC Regular Season Championship

Rocklin, CA – The Hope International women's soccer team (12-3-2, 5-1-1 GSAC) shutout the Jessup University Warriors 5-0 to become Co-GSAC Regular Season Champions on the road on Saturday afternoon in Rocklin, CA.

The Royals came out quickly generating several opportunities before they opened the scoring in the 13th minute. It was Ryley Candelario who played the ball to Christiane Sundstrom who calmly scored her 17th goal of the year to put the Royals on top 1-0. The Royals then doubled their lead in the 17th minute as Candelario stole the ball off a bad Warriors backpass and converted to make it 2-0. The Royals defense then clamped down and allowed just two shots with none on target as they took a 2-0 lead at halftime.

The Royals came out of halftime looking for more and it didn't take long as Sundstrom struck again in the 48th minute to put the Royals on top 3-0. Candelario would then get her second in the 66th minute to make it 4-0. The Royals weren't done yet as Hannah Ireland scored her first goal of the season on a lovely long range goal from midfield that chipped the keeper to make it 5-0 in the 72nd minute. The Royals defense meanwhile didn't allow any shots on goal as Haley Slouka and Zaydee Solis combined for the 5-0 shutout as the Royals won their second GSAC Regular Season Championship and first since 2021.

With the win and since the OUAZ Spirit win the head to head tiebreaker the Royals earn the number two seed in the GSAC Tournament and a bye to the semifinals on Thursday, November 9 at 12:00 PM at Arizona Christian University in Glendale, AZ against the highest remaining seed between 3-6.
