Fullerton, CA – The Hope International women's volleyball team (3-12, 2-5 GSAC) fell to the Vanguard University Lions 3-0 on Friday evening in the Darling Pavilion in Fullerton, CA
The game started off back and forth as the teams were tied 7-7 early in the first set with
Carissa Wiles leading the Royals with two kills. The Lions then went on a 6-0 run to take a 13-7 lead. The Royals tried to fight back but for every point they scored the Lions had an answer as they continued to trail 17-11. The Lions then went on another run as the Royals fell 25-14 and 1-0. The second set started similarly to the first as the team exchanged leads with the Royals holding an early 6-5 advantage thanks to two kills from
Cassidy Koffroth. The Lions though went on a 5-0 run to take a 10-6 advantage as they took control. The Royals managed to keep it within four as they continued to battle but in the end the Lions pulled away taking set two 25-18 as the Royals trailed 2-0. Facing defeat, the Royals continued to battle hard in the third set as they took an early 9-8 lead led by two kills from Wiles. The Lions though came storming back on an 11-1 run to take a commanding 19-10 lead as they went on to take set three 25-12 and the game 3-0. Wiles led the Royals with 11 kills.
The Royals continue GSAC play tomorrow as they travel to La Mesa, CA to take on San Diego Christian College on Saturday, October 1 at 2:00 PM.
