Fullerton, CA – The Hope International women's volleyball team wrapped up the HIU Summer Slam Tournament on Saturday with a 3-1 loss to Northwest University and a 3-0 loss to No. 8 Northwestern College in the Darling Pavilion.
Game 1:
The Royals trailed early as the Eagles started the game on a 5-1 run as they went on to take the first set 25-13. The Royals didn't give up though as they fought back in the second set keeping it close most of the way. The Eagles proved to be to much as they pulled away to take set two 25-17. The Royals stepped it up in the third set as they jumped out to an early 13-5 lead with 
Cassidy Koffroth leading the way with four kills. The Royals upped their lead to as many as ten as they went on to take set three 25-15 as they avoided the sweep. In the end the Eagles proved to be to much as the Royals dropped the fourth set 25-20 and the match 3-1. 
Carissa Wiles led the Royals with 14 kills and 20 digs.
Game 2:
The Royals faced a tough test against No. 8 Northwestern in their final game of the tournament. The Royals managed to keep it close early on in the first set but the Red Raiders used a 5-0 to take a 12-6 lead and never looked back as they won the first set 25-13. The Royals continued to fight though as they opened the second set on a 4-1 run and held the lead at 10-8 early on. Once again the Red Raiders used a big run to take control as they took the second set 25-17. The Royals never gave up fighting, but the Red Raiders led the third set from start to finish as the Royals fell 25-18 and 3-0 in the match. Wiles once again led the Royals with 10 kills.
The Royals will return to action at the USK Labor Day Tourney next weekend September 2-3 as they take on La Sierra at 8:00 AM and the University of Michigan-Dearborn at 4:00 PM in San Marcos, CA hosted by the University of Saint Katherine.
