Horn With 33 As Royals Bounce Back With Win Over Spirit

Surprise, AZ - The Hope International University men's basketball team (5-2, 3-1 GSAC) bounced back from their loss on Thursday with an 81-74 win over the OUAZ Spirit on Saturday afternoon in Surprise, AZ.

The Royals started off strong as they opened the game on a 9-3 run and went on to take an early 13-8 advantage led by six points from Jalani Horn. The Spirit answered though as they came back to take a 20-19 lead. That lead didn't last long though as Charles Neal sunk a three to put the Royals back ahead and start an 8-0 run as they took a 27-20 lead midway through the first. The Spirit would fight back to tie the game and then take a 32-31 lead as the game became a see saw battle with the teams exchanging leads. With the game tied 37-37 the Royals took back the lead as Horn hit a jumper to make it 39-37 with 2:14 left. Horn then closed the game with five points as the Royals took a 44-40 halftime lead.

The Spirit seized the momentum back in the second as they opened the quarter on a 10-0 run to take a 50-44 lead. This time it was the Royals who had to battle back and they did as Horn hit a big three with 10:44 left to tie the game 60-60. The teams then exchanged leads before Rasheet Wilson sunk a shot with 8:36 left to start an 11-0 run that he also finished off with a basket as the Royals took a 76-65 lead with 4:13 left. The Spirit wouldn't go away though as they used a 9-3 run to get within 79-74 with 1:53 left. That's as close as they Royals would let them get as Wilson hit to late free throws to give the Royals an 81-74 win. Horn led the Royals with 33 points.

The Royals continue GSAC play at home as they take on Westmont College on Thursday, December 8 at 7:30 PM in the Darling Pavilion.
