Fullerton, CA - The Hope International University men's basketball team (6-3, 4-2 GSAC) couldn't overcome hot three points shooting as they fell 89-78 to the Master's University Mustangs on Saturday evening in the Darling Pavilion.
The Mustangs started out strong as they took an early 7-2 lead. The Royals quickly came back to tie the game on back to back baskets from
Rasheet Wilson to make it 7-7. The Mustangs would take back control though as they extended their advantage to 16-9. The Royals didn't let them get away though as they came back to get within 19-18 on a pair of free throws by
Jalani Horn midway through the first. The game continued to be a battle with the Mustangs just edging ahead until
Charles Neal hit a big three to put the Royals up for the first time at 24-23 with 6:16 left. The Mustangs had all the answers though as they continued to rain down threes to build their lead back to 38-34. Wilson would give the Royals the lead back with a three at 39-38 with 1:33 left. The Mustangs quickly answered to take a 43-29 advantage but a buzzer beater from Neal got the Royals back within one at 43-42 at halftime.
The game continued to be tight in the second half as they Royals kept coming back to tie the game before taking the lead back on a pair of free throws from
Sebastian Castro as they led 54-52 with 14:41 remaining. The Mustangs though had all the answer as they nailed a three to retake the lead before going on to take a 64-58 lead midway through the second. The Royals continued to battle but it was the Mustangs who kept scoring as they upped their lead to 73-62 with 7:45 to go. The Royals didn't give up as they used an 8-3 run finished off by a layup and one from
Gaven Ramirez on a nice move to the bucket to pull within 76-70. That was as close as the Royals got though as they fell 89-78. Wilson led the Royals with 25 points.

The Royals take a break from GSAC play as they head to Arizona to play in the Cactus Classic beginning on Saturday, December 17 at 11:00 AM against Montana State University-Northern in Chandler, Arizona.
