Fullerton, CA - The Hope International University men's basketball team (3-1, 2-0 GSAC) won their third game in a row as they upset No. 15 William Jessup 83-73 on Saturday afternoon in the Darling Pavilion.
It was a battle from the beginning as the Royals looked to knock off the No. 15 ranked Warriors. The Warriors scored the first basket of the game but from their the Royals ground out a lead as
Rasheet Wilson and
Jalani Horn hit back to back threes. Horn continued to shine for the Royals as he scored a layup to give the Royals their largest lead at 19-12 midway through the first. The Warriors tried to fight back but the Royals had all the answers as a basket with 3:55 left by
Sebastian Castro put the Royals up 34-21. The Warriors did answer with a late 9-2 run to get within 36-30 but Wilson scored a layup at the buzzer to put the Royals up 38-30 at halftime.
The Warriors continued to give the Royals all they could handle in the second half as they went on a 13-4 run to take a 43-42 lead with 14:38 left. The Royals responded quickly though as
Charles Neal sunk a clutch three to put the Royals back up and then Wilson followed with another to make it 48-43. The Warriors answered though as they used a 7-2 run to get within 50-49 but once again the Royals had a quick answer as they went on a 6-0 run to take a 56-49 lead midway through the second. The Warriors continued to pressure the Royals by hitting some big three-point shots as they were able to get within 65-63 with 6:20 left. The Royals closed out the game though as Gaven Ramirez scored a layup and then hit a clutch three to make it 72-63 as the Royals went on to pull off the upset 83-73. Neal led the Royals with 22 points while Horn and Wilson finished with 16 each.
The Royals continue play at home as they take on Bethesda University for the second time this season on Saturday, November 26 at 1:00 PM.
