Alex Driggers enters his second season as Head Wrestling Coach at Hope International University, where he is leading the continued development of the Royals’ wrestling program and building a championship culture rooted in faith, excellence, hard work, and accountability. With 10 years of coaching experience, Driggers brings a proven background in athlete development and program leadership, having coached multiple state champions and state placers throughout his career.
At HIU, Driggers’ vision extends far beyond success on the wrestling mat. His mission is to build a Christ-centered program that develops complete student-athletes who pursue excellence spiritually, academically, athletically, and as leaders. Driggers believes collegiate athletics provides a unique opportunity to develop brothers and sisters in Christ, mold servant leaders, and prepare young men and women for success long after their competitive careers have ended. Under his leadership, the Royals are establishing a culture in which hard work and accountability are foundational, excellence is expected in every area of life, and student-athletes are challenged to grow in their faith, succeed in the classroom, and compete at the highest levels of collegiate wrestling.
Prior to arriving at Hope International, Driggers built a diverse coaching résumé across multiple programs and regions of the country. He served as Head Wrestling Coach at Redondo Union High School for two seasons and Cypress High School for one season after previously serving as an assistant coach at Harvard-Westlake in Los Angeles. Earlier in his career, he coached for two seasons at Independence High School in Thompson’s Station, Tennessee, after beginning his coaching career as an assistant at University Christian School in Jacksonville, Florida. Across his coaching stops, Driggers has played an integral role in the development of numerous championship-level wrestlers, including multiple state champions and state placers.
Originally from Virginia, Driggers competed at Franklin County High School in Rocky Mount before beginning his collegiate wrestling career at King University in Bristol, Tennessee. He later transferred to Radford University, where he earned All-American honors in 2009 after placing sixth nationally during his junior season. He has continued his involvement in combat sports through training in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. Driggers earned his Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Radford University in 2010 and his Juris Doctor from Florida Coastal School of Law in 2013. Away from the mat, Driggers enjoys cooking, traveling, and spending time with his wife, Jenny; his stepchildren, Grayson, Brooklyn, and Camryn; and his son, Calvin.
