Dan Whittington

Dan Whittington came to HIU in 2016 from Whittier High School where he coached for the previous 14 seasons. As head of the boy’s and girl’s squads, Whittington compiled a 137-33 record with the women’s side and a 111-59 record for the men’s program.

He has coached two CIF Individual Champions and had multiple teams qualify for CIF. In addition, fifteen of his runners moved on to NCAA Division I and II programs after high school.

Whittington grew up in Mission Viejo, CA and attended Santa Margarita Catholic High School where he was a part of two CIF championship teams for Cross Country and Track. After finishing high school Whittington attended Biola and competed on the track team for four season.

While at Biola, Whittington and his teams qualified for three NAIA National Championships from 1997-99 for Cross Country. Whittington qualified individually for the 3000 meter Steeplechase in 1999 and 2000 for track.

Whittington holds a bachelor's degree from Biola, graduating in 2001 after majoring in business management with an accounting emphasis. After working in the investment industry at PIMCO for a year he began working at Whittier as a teacher and coach. Whittington also went on to receive his Master’s in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia Irvine in 2012.
