
After leading Hope International to the inaugural GSAC Flag Football Championship, freshmen Anahi Morales and Madison Powell were named the GSAC Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively.
The duo led the Royals to the title at the Arizona Cardinals Flag Football Campus, defeating Simpson 44-8 in the semifinals and La Sierra 13-7 in the championship game. HIU improved to 15-2 overall and extended its winning streak to 14 straight.
Morales completed 41 of 56 passes – a 73.2 percent success rate – for 372 yards and three touchdown passes over the two games. She also had 14 rushes for 73 yards and three touchdowns.
She finished 20 of 27 for 187 yards and two TD's against the Redhawks, adding a pair of touchdowns on the ground. In a closely contested battle against the Golden Eagles, she converted 21 of 29 passes for 185 yards and a touchdown throw. She scored the winning touchdown with a 12-yard scamper into the end zone.
HIU is now headed to the NAIA Flag Football Invitational at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. The event runs May 6-9.
