HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. – Carmelina Infante and Maci Hendry won a match-clinching three-set battle at No. 3 to lift the Hope International beach volleyball team to a 3-2 victory over La Sierra in a Great Southwest Athletic Conference match on Friday at the Brookhurst and PCH Courts.

Infante and Hendry excelled in the third set tiebreaker, prevailing 21-14, 16-21, 15-7 over Anna Ayala and Sakura Pangelinan. 

The Royals took a 2-0 lead as Rita Nua and Cozette Zimmermann were 21-16, 21-19 winners against Sarah Patin and Denisse Sanchez at the fours. Bryce Swain and Sabrina Galassi followed with a three-set triumph at No. 2, defeating Herlinda Casanova and Lanah Bergen by scores of 21-15, 17-21, 15-11.

But the Golden Eagles battled back to tie the match.

On the one line, Ava Himstreet and Alisa Gavva won a tight first set before taking the 22-20, 21-11 contest against Kyla Dothard and Lole Mamea.

Joseleen Navarro and Jenni Solano upended HIU's No. 5 pair of Macy Thornburg and Phoebe Sebby with a 24-22, 21-13 victory, setting up the clincher at No. 3.

HIU improved to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the GSAC. The Golden Eagles fell to 1-1 overall and in league play.

The Royals return to action on Saturday in Santa Clarita, taking on Corban in a neutral site contest at 10:00 a.m.
