Women’s Soccer Ends Season in GSAC Tournament

PRESCOTT, Ariz. – Hope International fell 5-1 to top-seeded Embry-Riddle in the semifinals of the Great Southwest Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Tournament on Saturday.

The Royals concluded their season at 10-7-2 overall, cementing the program's third straight 10-win campaign.

The Eagles – ranked No. 8 nationally in the NAIA – remained unbeaten at 17-0-2 and will play The Master's for the GSAC crown on Wednesday.

Embry-Riddle took a 3-0 lead with goals in the 20th, 26th and 39th minutes by Jamie Black, Samantha Wright and Sachie Ilae.

The Royals responded with a goal at the 41:24 mark to slice the deficit to 3-1. An Eagle defender deflected a ball out to Kira Christenson, who chested the ball to the ground and unleashed a left-footed floater over the outstretched hands of Embry-Riddle keeper Aubrianne Dupre.

It was Christenson's second goal of the season.

The home team held a 12-2 shots advantage in the first half and finished the game leading 25-11 in that department. The Eagles also held a 9-3 edge in corner kicks.

HIU could not muster any offense in the second half, and succumbed to a pair of second half Embry-Riddle goals. Wright netted her second of the match in the 57th minute and Kaitlyn Roskopf concluded the scoring with a goal in the 72nd.

Emma Valenzuela led the Royals with four shots, and goalkeeper Victoria Ruiz made a career-high nine saves. Dupre stopped four shots for the Eagles.
