Royals Down Warriors 5-1 to Open GSAC Play

La Verne, CA – The No. 19 Hope International women's soccer team (4-1) opened their 2024 GSAC campaign with a 5-1 win over the Life Pacific University Warriors on Wednesday morning on the road in La Verne, CA.

The Royals pushed forward on the attack creating several chances before they opened the scoring in the 22nd minute with Bela Ochoa finding Pressley Honeycutt for her second goal of the season to make it 1-0. The Warriors tried to fight back as they created a chance but goalie Haley Slouka was right there to keep them off the board. The Royals then added to their lead as Frida Vizcarra passed off to Christian Sundstrom who fired home for her seventh goal of the season to make it 2-0 in the 29th minute. The Royals weren't done as they cashed in again right before halftime with Marissa Marquez finding Frida Vizcarra for her first career Royals goal to make it 3-0 in the 40th minute.

The Royals continued to push for more to start the second half as Sundstrom rattled the post and Ryley Candelario forced two saves. The Royals would then capitalize again as Ana Pacheco scored her first career Royals goal off a free kick in the 51st minute to make it 4-0. The Warriors tried to answer but it was the Royals who scored again as Emma Viayra laid off a great ball to Brandi Valdez who calmly finished for her first career goal to make it 5-0 in the 82nd minute. The Warriors would finally breakthrough with a goal just a minute later as they made it 5-1 in the 85th minute. That would be all the defense allowed as the Royals won 5-1. Haley Slouka played the first half allowing no goals with two saves while Victoria Ruiz played the second half allowing one goal and recording one save.

The Royals continue GSAC action at home as they host The Master's on Saturday, September 21 at 11:30 AM at Biola University in La Mirada, CA.
